Why Eat Turmeric?

I'm always looking for ways to boost my brain health, and I am fairly certain that's why you're here too. Have you heard about the numerous benefits of turmeric?  One of turmeric's most active components is curcumin, which has been shown to have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric contains about 3% curcumin, and the many health benefits of adding this potent spice to your diet is worth it!

I love to pour over all the facts that I can find when I come upon claims of foods being beneficial to your health. This is the main goal for my blog, to curate information and bring you the information in a nutshell. I provide links to what I've read and put my spin on it. If there was one magic bullet to gaining optimal health, we'd all be super healthy! I believe that maintaining good health comes from many areas such as exercise, nutrition, good sleep, and meditation.

For example, that last thing I mentioned, meditation, is super important and super easy. Close your eyes right now, take a deep breath in, and count to four. Hold it for a second, then breathe out for a count of four. Relax your eye muscles and do it again. Now relax your forehead and do it again. See? That's it. That's all there is to it. Meditation doesn't have to be complicated. Taking a few moments to just breathe is a good way to start!

Now that you are a bit more relaxed and ready to absorb information, on to my main topic here, turmeric. What are the health benefits of consuming turmeric?

  • It is a powerful anti-inflammatory.  Note, it is not well-absorbed into the body unless it is taken with black pepper.
  • It protects healthy cells and is an antioxidant.
  • It can help regulate blood fat levels and provide cardiovascular benefits.

With anything that is good for us, there can be potential side effects and reasons to NOT consume certain foods or supplements. One that stands out with turmeric is that it can stimulate the gallbladder, so if you have gallbladder issues, I do not recommend consuming turmeric. (Also - I am just a girl who loves to bring information together. I am not a doctor nor do I like to pretend to be one on the Internet.)

In conclusion, while there is no one thing we can do to prevent Alzheimer's, there are many things that we can do to improve our well-being and thus help us achieve healthy minds and bodies. The goal is to maintain health for quality of life. We can do this through healthy attitudes and smart choices when it comes to what we put into our bodies. Following is a collection of articles about turmeric and its many health benefits. With all that I have learned about turmeric, I've decided to make some chicken curry for dinner. Yum!
