Every 66 Seconds....

Here is a fact: every 66 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer's. I used to think Alzheimer's was a disease that only very old people would get. I used to think that Alzheimer's meant that a person was just 'forgetful'. It's bigger than that. Alzheimer's is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. There is no cure.

So every 66 seconds... How can we improve our health in one minute? Well I did a little search and came up with some great ideas. How about giving someone a hug? Or what about taking some nice, deep belly breaths? Here is a fun list of what you can do to improve your health in one minute:  check out #12!!  Well alrighty then!

What else can you do in one minute? Go to The Longest Day website and sign up to start your own team for the Alzheimer's Association event The Longest Day. The money you raise will go toward Alzheimer's care, support, research, awareness, and advocacy in your area. You and your team can do any activity you love to honor those affected by Alzheimer's. For example, do you love to play checkers? Have a checkers tournament! Do you like to bike? Have your team members request a pledge for every mile they ride on the day of your event!  I have been participating in this event over the past couple of years in honor of my mom. In her world, every day may feel like the LONGEST DAY! She is no longer able to enjoy driving to the YMCA to meet up with her friends for a swim class, have lunch at a restaurant, or walk the aisles of Kohl's looking for things to buy. Those are simple joys in life that have been taken away by Alzheimer's.

How will you spend the next 66 seconds?
